Ashwaubenon-based retailer Shopko announced Tuesday it will outsource “select” information technology jobs starting later this year.
The move is expected to eliminate 74 positions in the Green Bay area where the company is headquartered. Sixty nine of those jobs are filled and five positions are vacant and will not be filled, according to the company.
Twenty of the Shopko employees will be hired by the partner company, HCL Technologies, and will be based in Ashwaubenon.
Outsourcing of IT services is scheduled to begin Sept. 4 with a four month transition period leading up to that date, according to a press release from Shopko Tuesday morning.
HCL has experience in retail sector and will handle “a variety of software applications covering strategic planning, product management, data exchange and forecasting capabilities.”
Company officials say the move is designed to keep Shopko competitive.
“These types of business decisions are never easy. We understand the disruption this causes in the lives of our teammates and their families,” Shopko’s Sr. Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Tammy Hermann, state in a press release. “However, this decision will provide long-term strategic benefits to our store operations and ultimately, our customer… HCL offers Shopko state-of-the art software, technology and infrastructure.
“This partnership will increase our efficiency, quality and productivity. It ensures Shopko will remain competitive in today’s market as well as position us for future growth,” she said
Shopko will offer outplacement services and severance packages to all affected employees.
