IT organizations are not ready for communications technology

June 29th, 2010

Although technology has invaded all the places we visit, including our workplaces, the corporate world isn’t too keen to prepare itself for the change, states a new survey sponsored by Unisys Corporation and conducted by International Data Corp.

The Unisys  sponsored research states there are various disconnects between the consumer IT movement and readiness on the part of organizations. For example, employers don’t seem to have an accurate understanding of what and how many consumer technologies their employees are using in the workplace, states the survey. According to the survey, Iworkers are using smartphones, laptops and mobile phones in the workplace at nearly twice the rate reported by employers.

“This research raises important questions as to how well prepared today’s organizations are to weather the tsunami of consumer technologies and products flooding into the workplace and to capitalize on new ways of doing business, connecting with customers, and attracting future workers,” said Sam Gross, vice president, Global IT Outsourcing Solutions, Unisys. “We are at an inflection point in the history of global computing.”

While nearly a quarter of iWorkers surveyed use blogs and professional online communities for business purposes, more than 40 percent of iWorkers surveyed use instant messaging and text messaging for business, states the survey. The report states that the number of iWorkers using smartphones for work is expected to nearly double from 2009 to 2014. Finally, the survey states that nearly half of all iWorkers surveyed (46 percent) give their employers extremely low marks for the integration of consumer devices and social networks with enterprise applications.

In 2007, the company partnered with JasperSoft , which enabled Unisys to deliver JasperSoft-certified consulting services to organizations looking for professional reporting and data analysis functionality. Unisys intends to focus on providing services to existing clients while targeting select new enterprise opportunities in financial services, commercial and public sector markets. Unisys will add JasperSoft open source BI to a portfolio of open source products.

Intelenet chooses verizon business to host projects in the cloud

June 29th, 2010

When Intelenet Global Services needed a secure, high-capacity computing environment for a high-priority project, the company chose a cloud-based solution from Verizon Business. The solution enabled Intelenet to cost-efficiently scale up its technology infrastructure in just hours and to make key applications available to the project team within just five days.

By leveraging Verizon’s fully managed Computing-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution, Intelenet was able to create a new computing environment without the need to invest in dedicated hardware and software. In addition, Verizon CaaS’ pay-as-you-go model enabled Intelenet to align project expenditures with revenues while benefiting from daily billing, integrated security, automated provisioning and integrated storage and backup services to support business continuity. Application availability is backed by Verizon Business’ stringent service-level agreements, and the solution is provisioned through a Web-based user interface.

Intelenet provides contact-center, finance, accounting, transaction-processing and consulting services to Fortune 500 companies in the banking and financial services, health care, retail, insurance, telecom, manufacturing, travel and hospitality industries. The India-based company employs more than 32,000 employees at 35 locations globally.
Intelenet was already a Verizon Business customer, using Verizon Private IP to provide a secure, scalable and flexible global communications network to connect its offices and customers around the world. Verizon also hosts and manages the company’s secure portal for the exchange of information with clients, partners and vendors. Verizon’s world-class data center facilities offer a stable, secure and reliable foundation for Intelenet’s core application hosting requirements and its ad-hoc business needs.

Rajendra Deshpande, chief technology officer, Intelenet Global Services, said: “For companies such as ours, the ability to deliver projects for our clients, quickly and cost-effectively, is a real business differentiator. By building our project infrastructure in the Verizon cloud, we estimate savings of about 35 percent versus building the infrastructure ourselves, and were able to commence activity within an incredibly short timeframe.

“Of course, the Verizon solution also addresses all our concerns around issues such as security, scalability and flexibility. Alongside our existing IT infrastructure, Verizon CaaS is a real enabler of business agility.”

The benefits of outsourcing to an offshore company

June 29th, 2010

There are companies that are not only hesitant about virtual assistance they are also hesitant about hiring workers from abroad. But there are so many benefits to outsourcing to an offshore company that you get double-benefits when you hire a VA. You get the best benefits of outsourcing, you also get the best benefits from hiring a worker from a company abroad.

Off-shoring allows you to get the best possible workers for different tasks. Now without geographic borders and other limitations, you can get the workers with the best skills from anywhere in the world. Modern technologies allow you to communicate with anyone from anywhere around the world. Now you can hire a writer from Asia, a web designer from the US, a web programmer from India or any worker from any nation.

You can hire a worker that understands the culture in a particular region. Do you have plans of expanding your business to another country? You can hire a worker from that country even if you maintain an office in the US or the UK. The VA can help you communicate more effectively with your target market.

When you hire a virtual assistant, you can answer inquiries more quickly which can lead to more sales. Anytime you introduce a worker or a process that will allow you to become more attentive to your clients, a business is really going to have greater opportunities to sell.

An offshore virtual assistant can provide you with savings. A virtual assistant from a country with cheaper labor cost can really help you get tasks done for much cheaper. Think of all the time-consuming tasks in your business. Think of how much your time costs if you did all the tasks yourself. Just imagine having a full-time worker and how much you need to spend to hire and keep the worker. With a virtual assistant, you don’t have to spend as much. Not only will you save money on the salary of the virtual assistant, you also save on the overhead expense related to workforce.

You also get to hire workers that you do not have to keep permanently. You can get their services only as they are needed in the business. Should the business later on require other specializations or skills, you can easily get the worker that the business needs. Virtual assistance really provides businesses with greater flexibility. Before virtual assistance became popular, it was not easy for companies to hire and keep workers as they needed them and to let them go when there is no more tasks that the VA needs to perform.

Mortgage modification process outsourcing saves companies time and money

June 29th, 2010

Today released its latest white paper, “Creating an Effective Loan Modification Process.” This complimentary position paper explains the benefits of outsourcing mortgage loan modifications and the resulting compliance assurances, cost reductions and process improvements.

Due to declining real estate prices, increased unemployment and negative equity, rates of mortgage delinquency and foreclosures are on the rise. According to TransUnion, mortgage delinquency rates have grown consistently over the past three years from the previous years.

In 2009, the U.S. Administration enacted HAMP, which enables eligible homeowners to modify mortgages and make them more affordable; however, many homeowners are unable to complete the process due to incomplete documentation or a re-default on modified loans.

Loan servicers that partner with SOURCECORP are better able to manage the influx of documentation and streamline the adjustment process. Michael Zwall, SOURCECORP’s director of Mortgage Services for its BPS division and the author of the white paper, said, “Organizations that subcontract all or part of the modification process gain a smart approach that ensures everything is done correctly.

For example, because of our investment in qualified staff and the latest technology platforms, we can help loan servicers address ever-changing volume fluctuations. Plus, our service level commitments mean we’re processing documents quickly, which boosts communication and improves customer service.”

Subcontracting the loan modification process also reduces costs for loan companies because it allows companies to dedicate their internal resources to profit-generating operations.

In fact, the research firm NelsonHall reported that outsourcing can save companies between 20 and 40 percent — and those percentages continue to improve over a three- to five-year term.

The firm also noted that companies can also save up to 50 percent indirectly due to the speed of processing and reduced litigation.

Zwall concluded, “As the mortgage arena continues to change, SOURCECORP offers the flexible solutions that help to address market-driven changes.”

How to know is your IT Outsourcing partner is right for your organization

June 29th, 2010

Organizations that have already gotten their feet wet outsourcing IT services are leaps ahead of competitors just putting a toe in the water. Outsourcing extends the reach of enterprise computing environments, changes the scope of available IT services, and empowers internal IT staff to focus on more strategic tasks. But how do you know whether the IT outsourcing partner you’ve tested the waters with is the one who can help you fully leverage outsourcing to work in your favor?

To help you assess your outsourcing partner, Logicalis, an international provider of integrated information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and services, has identified key “insider secrets” that you can use as a benchmark:

1. Make sure you’re expectations are met. 2. Ensure your services are delivered around best practices. 3. Survey your team. 4. Check your ROI.

“As evolved as technology outsourcing has become, getting the most for your outsourcing dollar really comes down to knowing that you have the right outsourcing partner, and the right service-level agreement to meet your business objectives, delivered at the right price,” says Mike Alley, Logicalis’ Director of Outsourcing. “If you don’t have these things, it’s time to change providers.” To help clients and prospective clients assess an outsourcing partner, Logicalis’ outsourcing specialists have provided this insider’s guide.

Insider Secrets for Assessing Your IT Outsourcing Partner

1. Make sure your expectations are met. Take a look at your current contract and compare your expectations with what is being delivered. Are the services really meeting the end results you were trying to achieve by outsourcing the service?

Many find themselves dissatisfied with the service they are getting but choose to just live with it. When you find yourself in this position you need to meet with your provider and determine if it can adapt and deliver the service you really need. If not, find an IT outsourcing partner that can.

2. Ensure your services are delivered around best practices. How do you compare the services being delivered against the services defined in your contract? High-quality outsourcing partners deliver their services through IT service management (ITSM) tools that connect agreed upon service-level agreements (SLAs) to actual service delivery.

If you find that your current provider is not meeting its SLAs it is time to dig in and uncover the underlying problem. Processes and communication are the foundation for outsourcing success. If you feel this foundation is missing from your current provider it is time to reevaluate who is performing your services.

3. Survey your team. Your team often knows how well the relationship with your IT outsourcing partner is, or is not, working. Get them to provide honest, critical feedback to help determine whether you’re working with the right partner or whether you need a new one.

4. Check your ROI. One of the main reasons for using IT outsourcing in the first place is to reduce costs and get a clear return on your investment. Is your current IT outsourcing partner enabling your team to invest time in projects that provide clear value – and support revenue – for your organization? If not, you have another reason to reconsider the relationship.

If you determine that it’s time to move to a new outsourcing partner, don’t make this critical mistake: “Quite often, people sign an outsourcing contract and think, ‘Ok, I’m done.’ In reality, a service provider has to be managed just like employees do,” explains Logicalis’ Alley.

“With outsourcing, you are going to get out of it what you put into it, so if you are not communicating with your provider, if you are not informing it about changes within your company’s business units, don’t expect it to be able to make recommendations to help you incorporate the change into your service.”

Logicalis technologists also say if you find that you need to make a partner change, be prepared to work with both your current partner and your new partner for a defined transition period. Of course, the length of time for a transition varies depending on the complexity of the tasks being outsourced, but expect between 30 and 60 days.
