BSNL intends to bring down investments with outsourcing of 3g services

July 5th, 2010 by Deepak Leave a reply »

According to the media reports, BSNL is all set to opt for outsourcing of 3G services and will work on inviting a possible franchisee by the end of current month. Financial crisis has been cited as the reason for this step.

Business Standard revealed the news in wake of conversation with company’s chairman Mr. Kuldeep Goyal. He said, BSNL will look for a franchisee who didn’t manage to win during recently concluded 3G auction. The firm is also interested in depending for outsourcing on an existing mobile service operator. The action will facilitate this telecom PSU to bring down its investments needed for initiation of 3G services.

“We expect 5 per cent of our total user base to come from 3G. This figure might go up to 10-15 per cent of our mobile customer base in the coming time,” Goyal said to Business Standard.

BSNL got 3G spectrum much ahead of private companies, as the government wanted to give this public sector company an advantage over private players. With this step, BSNL tries to gain advantage over private players before they take over the lead after receiving the spectrum from government in September.
