Outsourcing tip: make them agree to a contract

July 28th, 2010 by Renu Chopra Leave a reply »

So, you have decided to hire not a regular employee but an outsource company or provider who can do the same job without having to pay for a lot of extras. You want to outsource a certain job to someone whom you have never met before, nor will like to meet at all except probably through email or messenger applications.

Once you have made your decision, it is now time to test out their skills and their abilities. Surprise, surprise, the applicant passed with flying colors and is now ready to work for your company. What’s next?Well there are some companies who simply just give the jobs or projects over and they get great products which eventually make their online businesses flourish. The question is, how long will these virtual assistants continue working for you? Are they willing to work for the same amounts as previously agreed upon? Can they just disappear and leave you hanging and a messy project left unfinished?

The questions are valid ones and have been concerns from companies who outsource most of the time. What do they do that their virtual assistants continue working for them for months, some even years? The secret is actually the contract between the outsourcing company and the hiring company. There has to be a written agreement that both parties must study well so that they both benefit from the relationship. The contract includes how much the pay is for a certain type of project, or it can be a contract where the VA works certain hours for a week and gets paid whether or not there was a project given.

Some of the hiring companies, like yourself, are probably wondering why they should pay even if there was no project given. Well, outsourcing works both ways, truthfully. If you hire someone, they will schedule their time according to you needs and projects that was agreed upon in the first place. So, if you failed to give a project at a certain time, then they will be left hanging if you do not pay for their scheduled time, and vice versa – you don’t pay if they don’t deliver.Agreement between parties is crucial to any relationship and if one or the other breaks the agreement, then there will be trouble if there is no signed contract.
