IT support in london: businesses maintained IT spend during recession

August 26th, 2010 by Manmohan Leave a reply »

The majority of businesses kept faith with IT spending during the recession, according to an expert in contracting.

Gerry McLaughlin, of ITContractor.com, said there has been a “sea change” in attitudes towards IT, and most firms now view it as being too crucial to their operations to cut.

He said that while in previous downturns, IT expenditure was seen as something of a luxury, it remained on the essentials list this time around.

The comments, which allude to higher technology spending among UK firms, may offer encouragement to outsourcing providers offering IT support in London.

IT contractors are also currently benefitting from increased employment opportunities, Mr McLaughlin claimed.

He noted that even finance organisations and the banks decided to maintain their IT budgets during the recession, despite being worst hit by the global economic downturn.

In a recent survey conducted by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, 62 per cent of respondents urged the government to increase its investment in technology, rather than cut it.
