There are several activities in web marketing that are simple to get done and repetitive and, frequently don’t require a human to get them done. That is, they could be completely automated when the software system to do them has been put in place. An example would be using social media for backlinking.
Then there are projects that require some human effort, although not necessarily your own. Content spinning, for example.
Such activities are often completed many times when promoting a web site and can take up a large amount of your time that is better used in other places. This is the time internet marketing outsourcing project turns into a good option. But before you rush off to set that up you need to make sure you have a decent procedure in place. If you do not know precisely what you want to outsource and in precisely what order tasks have to be done, you will be setting yourself up for quite a lot of pain in the future and wasting money.
As an internet marketing coach the initial thing I ask my clients to do is to ask themselves:
“Which work might someone do for me today that would allow me to generate income quickest?”
Next do the activity yourself, noting down specifically what you are doing and how long it takes. Later you can transform these notes into an instructions documentation, or, even better, use them as the outline for a screen capture tutorial.
Noting the length of time the task takes to do is useful because it’ll give you a bench mark against which to gauge your worker’s expertise. Ninety ninepercent of the time if you estimate this you will greatly underestimate the amount of time a job takes to be completed.
The more thorough instructions you can create for your worker, the better and quicker the tasks will be completed and the better it’ll be for all concerned.
If you are trying to find a full time employee via outsourcing firms, as compared with taking a person on on a project by project footing, it’s always worth spending the time to write down a work specification, that is, precisely what activities you will need to get done and a character specification, that is, what personal qualities and skillsets you are looking for. You will also have to indicate to what amount you require those skills and which are desirable and which indispensable.
After you have chosen some possible candidates ask them to work on a job for you that covers the most important skillsets you are seeking so, for instance, you might ask them to write an article around a particular keyword. This offers you a base on which to simply compare your candidates on the same skill and it’s always better to consider more than one person for any work.
When requiring them to finish the “test” task give them a bit of scope to show initiative but also ask for a number of details. So, for example you might ask them to answer by email with a precise title and attach documentation which includes information that they can a in several different ways. I normally ask for candidates to rank themselves on particular skills and characteristics and provide them a scale in order to do that. It’s instructive to see, not just their rankings, but also how they record the information.
Clearly, the “test” job will rely upon what you ultimately need your worker to do. But do not miss this step as it can save you a lot of wasted time.
Lastly, take people on for a tryout period and agree payment terms before you begin, making plain you will remunerate when the job is finished.
