Lenovo Group Limited,a leading Chinese PC maker, is trying to gear up in the IT service outsourcing market.

On August 31, 2010, Lenovo inked an agreement with Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd.in the latter’s headquarters Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province, east China, according to which Lenovo will provide two-year IT management service for Suntech Power.

The service will cover the headquarters of Suntech Power and local plant in the city as well as the latter’s branches around China and plants scattered in Suzhou, Shanghai, Luoyang, Chengdu and Qinghai.

A top executive of Lenovo points out that compared with IBM and Hewlett-Packard, IT service only accounts for a small proportion in the company’s overall business.

Lenovo will make full use of its large market share in the Chinese PC market to focus on the industries of manufacturing, retail chain and finance this year. Later, the IT service will be extended to other fields.

IT service outsourcing includes total information outsourcing (TIO) and business process outsourcing (BPO), according to the definition of Gartner (NYSE: IT). TIO provides customers with IT infrastructure and corporate application service.
