Hewlett-Packard Co. said that its U.K. Enterprise Services unit has inked a five-year $400 million global outsourcing services agreement with BP International Ltd., the gas and petroleum exploration giant.
The deal marks HP’s second large outsourcing services pact this week and third this month. Earlier this week, HP landed a $1.4 billion, five-year outsourcing services contract with E.ON IT GmbH, the IT and telecommunications unit of the German utility giant. Two weeks ago, the vendor secured an $80 million, seven-year contract with TOPS Friendly Markets LLC, a 132-store supermarket chain with outlets in New York and Pennsylvania, for applications and infrastructure technology services.
HP currently provides data center services to BP’s U.K.-headquartered European data centers. The new arrangement will extend HP services to other BP data centers in Europe and the Americas under a single contract that includes monitoring, backup and recovery, site management and maintenance services, and database and middleware management.
The vendor will provide BP with onsite data center services and remotely from its delivery centers in India.
Officials said that the deal will allow BP to standardize and consolidate its hosting services and incorporate cloud computing into its solutions mix. With the agreement, BP gains access to HP’s enterprise and public cloud computing services, as well as cloud services from other suppliers.
“A consistent and standardized data center environment enables companies like BP to navigate the many challenges of global operations in the oil and gas industry,” said Mike Nefkens, HP Enterprise Services, EMEA, senior vice president and general manager.
Nefkens said that HP intends to help BP construct an Instant-On Enterprise, embedding technology at every layer of operations.
“HP’s flexible computing capabilities and service excellence can help companies like BP to build an Instant-On Enterprise, in which technology is embedded in everything it does, while achieving their strategic goals,” said Nefkens.
BP said that it plans to upgrade information management by matching IT to its business objectives. Working with HP on a global basis will help BP to drive technology innovation and service improvement, officials said.
“By establishing a standardized global operating model, BP will realize immediate cost reductions, improved consistency of service and be well positioned to utilize emerging technologies,” said Dana Deasy, BP group vice president and chief information officer.
