01 Synergy at LCET Job Fair

December 23rd, 2011

Job Fair is a  exposition for employers, recruiters and colleges to meet with prospective job seekers. It is always a good experience to attend a job fair. Today we attended Job fair at Ludhiana College of Engineering and Technology, Katani Kalan with aim to hire fresh recruits in our iPhone, Android, PHP & Marketing team.

Students from many different colleges came to participate in this event. They seemed very excited for giving interviews and written tests. As most of the students were not aware of Mobile Application Development, we had to arrange awareness campaigns and we conducted seminars, telling students about the advantages of becoming Mobile application developers.

Also to bridge the gap,  we are now offering Industrial training in iPhone/Android application development, PHP and .NET., we briefed them about this training program also. Many of the students have shown their interest in this training program also.

To conclude, Job fairs are good places to hire deserving candidates and meet many company representatives under one roof.

Egypt’s outsourcing sector still going strong

December 23rd, 2011

Egypt’s outsourcing industry reached its goal of $1.1 billion in ICT export revenue, according to the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA).

“Egypt enjoys several advantages, given our location,” Ahmed Reda, head of public relations at ITIDA, told Daily News Egypt.

The country’s ICT sector has seen 17 new investments by multinational companies in the past two years along with a number of major deals over the past 12 months, Yasser ElKady, CEO of ITIDA, said in a statement.

“The sector has recorded strong and consistent growth this year with a 12 percent increase in the number of ICT companies in Egypt,” the agency said.

Despite the economic turmoil Egypt is facing due to the political unrest after the January uprising, the number of people employed in the sector has surged nearly 10 percent.

“We are able to serve several time zones, we have a tremendous talent pool full of qualified youth, we offer several packages that include training opportunities and that is why we are seeing this amount of outsourcing,” Reda added.

The ICT sector has surpassed its goal of $1 billion, setting itself up for its next “wave” of growth, this time aiming for $10 billion by 2020.

In February 2011, A.T. Kearney released its annual Global Services Location Index, naming Egypt the fourth most attractive location in the world for offshore services outsourcing. In 2010, Egypt was ranked sixth, up from 13th the previous year.

Despite the unfortunate timing, the firm did not revise its rating of Egypt. The index ranks 50 countries based on financial attractiveness, people skills and availability and business environment. India once again took the top spot.

“IT companies are now hiring, this is one sector not being affected by what is happening in the country,” said Reda.

Earlier this year, Motorola expanded its presence in the region with a new office, as well as a new regional center in Cairo, which is set up to be a focal office for the company’s Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

HSBC, Sutherland, Orange Business Services, and Stream International have all expanded business in Egypt, with Sutherland increasing its staff this year by 146 percent to about 460 people, according to ITIDA.

Companies like Valeo, the French automotive supplier has also increased the number of newly graduated Egyptian engineers this year, from 278 in December 2010 to 420 in December 2011. The company also expects to increase staff further to 540 in the next two years.

“We will continue to position Egypt as one of the key outsourcing destinations and it is evident we have already seen significant positive results,” said ElKady, referring to ITIDA’s vision for the upcoming year.

“We want to continue to extend all the necessary support to Egyptian and multi-national companies and we are positive that training and supporting the talent pool along with other initiatives will have considerable impact in 2012 and beyond.”

Egypt has the third-largest talent pool in the EMEA region, largely due to the country’s rich pool of young talent who boast an aptitude in various European languages, which gives it a competitive edge. It’s proximity to Europe in time zone also supports the sector’s growth, as is the lower labor cost.

In terms of infrastructure, Smart Village was initially established to serve as a concentration of businesses specializing in information technology, yet due to its strong success it quickly became a headquarters for a variety of multi-national corporations.

Following its example, the new IT Maadi Park, which was scheduled to be ready for operation in 2012, is slated to house approximately 300,000 employees in over 40 buildings.

In its efforts to promote the sector, ITIDA is planning to make Egypt a “leading hub for high end ICT-based innovation, with potential themes like engineering services, product R&D, mobile applications (including gaming), and clinical research.”

It also plans to “catalyze injection of IT into government/private entities” by improving the quality and productivity of services through IT enablement/outsourcing in domestic economy. This entails pursuing cloud computing, healthcare and education.

Egypt’s graduating pool of around 330,000 students is one of the largest among low cost offshoring destinations, according to ITIDA, which should make it’s plans for the sector a feasible target.

US Bill on outsourcing cause of concern: India

December 23rd, 2011

India today expressed concern over the proposed US Call Centre Bill but said that it is premature to assess the impact of the decision on the domestic IT industry.

A bipartisan bill has been tabled in the US House of Representatives to make companies, that move call centres overseas, ineligible for grants or guaranteed loans from the federal government, a move aimed at stemming the tide of jobs heading to nations like India.

“… Yes, it is something to be concerned about, yes, it is something to be worried about,” Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters here while releasing a report at the Assocham function here.

He, however, said that at this stage it would be premature to say anything on the possible impact of the proposed bill on the Indian industry.

Khullar said that the global economy is facing severe crisis and “you would continuously see such things quite simply because there is a real problem all over”.

The rate of unemployment is very high in several countries like the US, Spain and the UK, he said.

“Let me assure you that if it is happening in the US, something may happen in Spain tomorrow, in the UK tomorrow … then what you will do … you can not be consciously worried about reactions,” Khullar said.

IT industry body Nasscom has said that the proposed Bill would restrict free trade and establish discriminatory trade practices.

“It is indeed disappointing to see the US adopting ‘protectionist’ measures like these that restrict free trade and establish discriminatory trade practices. US lawmakers seem to have developed the practice of unfairly taxing companies working overseas, to pay for domestic issues,” Nasscom President Som Mittal has said yesterday.

The Bill by Representatives Tun Bishop and David McKinley also proposes a penalty of USD 10,000 per day on US call centres, for failing to report relocation to an offshore location, within 60 days to the US Department of Labour.

Also, call centre operators who answer calls will need to identify their location and the caller will have a choice of choosing a US-based operator.

According to Nasscom estimates, the BPO export segment is anticipated to grow by 14 per cent to reach USD 14.1 billion in FY 2011.

Bayer Business Services awards IT outsourcing contract Atos

December 23rd, 2011

Atos, an international IT services company, today announced that it has signed a global seven year contract with Bayer Business Services GmbH, the global competence center of the Bayer Group for IT and business services.

“Our possibilities to reach economies of scale are limited and the internal costs are too high, thus we decided to outsource particular services like end-user support and helpdesk support in Germany to an established IT service provider”, said Daniel Hartert, CIO of the Bayer group and CEO of Bayer Business Services. “I am convinced that Atos is the right partner for us”.

Atos will take over full management of the defined IT services from Bayer Business Services from April 2012.

“This is a major deal for Atos in Germany, consolidating our position as a top three IT services player in the German market,” said Thierry Breton, Chairman and CEO of Atos. “Our business technologists have the industry expertise and experience to drive innovation that will enable Bayer Business Services to optimise its IT-infrastructure and ensure it meets the business requirements of the Bayer Group today and tomorrow.”

In Germany Atos has 10.000 employees and is the biggest business unit by revenue within the Atos group. Atos is the leading provider of professional services to manufacturing and natural resources in Western Europe, and a major player worldwide.

12 IT Outsourcing Predictions for 2012

December 23rd, 2011

The IT outsourcing industry in 2011 was largely marked by smaller deals, hesitant customers, profit-squeezed providers and a whole lot of talkbut not as much actionon the cloud computing front.

Much of that could continue through the New Yearthe economic uncertainty behind last year’s sourcing trends is unlikely to lift until the latter part of the year. Nonetheless, the next 12 months will bring with them some new IT outsourcing trends and maybe even a few firsts. Following are 12 predictions from forward-looking outsourcing observers.

1. 2012 Will Be a Mixed Bag of M&A ActivityDon’t look for a HP-EDS, Dell-Perot, Xerox-ACS type of merger next year. “Outsourcing providers will shy away from mega-mergers,” says Phil Fersht, founder of outsourcing analyst firm HfS Research, due to a shortage of attractive second-tier providers capable of delivering more than added scale. (Unless you’re in China. Michael Rehkopf, outsourcing consultancy TPI’s director for North Asia is predicting a 2012 marriage between two of the top 20 Chinese service providers).
