IT outsourcing company, Capgemini has opened a business process outsourcing (BPO) centre in Gurgaon that focuses on content management, its first BPO centre in North India and sixth in the country, reports Hindustan Times.

The 35 000 square foot facility is hoped to increase Capgemini BPO total capacity in India to over 4 500 seats, according to the company.

In India, Capgemini’s BPO unit has close to 5 000 employees delivering content management, financial, research, supply chain management and human resources outsourcing services to more than 25 international clients, states Silicon India.

BL Narayan, VP and head of BPO Capgemini, India says: “The Gurgaon facility is part of Capgemini India’s ongoing development strategy for its BPO services.

“Having strengthened our presence in the key cities of South India, we are keen to leverage the talent pool of North India for servicing our global clients, based on our domain specialisation in supply chain management.”

News Tonight says Capgemini has also begun a higher apprentice plan in software development to back up the Mayor of London’s apprenticeship drive.

Christine Hodgson, UK chairman at Capgemini, points out: “This is an extension of the apprenticeship scheme we established in 2008 and is the first time we have sought an alternative to IT graduates, which have traditionally been the requirement not only of our company, but the IT industry as a whole.

“We expect to have a new generation of qualified developers and engineers who have been through the scheme working on some of our key clients.”

December 3rd, 2010

Capgemini BPO, a part of the 8.4-billion euro Capgemini Group which is a global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing, said it’s hiring 1,700 new staff in India in the next one year.

Currently, Capgemini BPO has 4,300 employees in India and the hiring will take the total tally to 6,000 by 2011.

“This would mean half of Capgemini’s BPO workforce will be located in India by next year,” said Capgemini Global BPO CEO Hubert Giraud and Capgemini BPO India Head & Vice-President B L Narayan, who inaugurated its new BPO facility here.

The new office is spread over 1,80,000 sq ft on eight floors. It will house 1,500 people. Because of its specialisation, the Capgemini India BPO workforce has a different profile of employees. The talent pool consists largely of commerce graduates and finance professionals, the company said.

It has over 100 Chartered Accountants and many aeronautical engineers, MBAs and statisticians. The Group company also hired over 40 accountants from campus this year, many of whom would be placed at Capgemini BPO, the company said.

On the business front, globally Capgemini BPO is growing at 25 per cent year-on-year. Currently, a leader in providing finance and accounting services, it has trained its focus on areas such as customer operations and supply chain management in 2011, it was stated.

Capgemini wins five-year IT contract with Anglian Water

October 29th, 2010

The deal will support Anglian Water’s infrastructure, including the full server and storage environment, and all the desktops and networks.

Mark Turner, account executive for the project at Capgemini, said: ” Capgemini will also support most of the main business applications, including the full SAP suite, a geographic information system and a range of specialist water systems.”

“There will be a knowledge transfer process on some of those specialist packages,” Turner confirmed.

In addition to the support function, the deal will involve building new infrastructure, including new storage, server and Wintel environments.

“Rather than shifting lots of kit, we’ll be building a new environment within our datacentre,” said Turner.

The deal also includes the use of VMware to create a new virtual environment, particularly around the water company’s Wintel estate. Turner explained that the company will be able to reduce the number of physical servers it maintains, thereby reducing operating expenses.

“We are aiming for 70 to 80 per cent virtualisation,” said Turner.

The transition to Capgemini’s datacentre begins immediately, with new services scheduled to go live in February 2011.
