The state’s Texas Enterprise Fund is investing $1.8 Million dollars to lure a Canadian IT outsourcing company to Belton and create 350 jobs.
The deal is contingent upon the completion of a local incentive agreement, and the Belton City Council is considering a “development agreement” at its regular meeting Tuesday night, according to the City’s agenda.
CGI Group Inc. employs 31,000 professionals in 125 global offices and recently celebrated its 35th year in business. It’s revenue in 2010 was $3.7 Billion, when it was named No. 14 on Business Week magazine’s Tech Hot Growth Company list.
The company wants to create its newest IT Center of Excellence in Belton, according to CGI U.S. President George Schindler.
“With a focus on recruiting veterans and military family members, this center will offer high-quality, onshore IT talent to our clients while providing good jobs to those who have served our nation so proudly,” Schindler explained.
A press release from Governor Rick Perry’s office says the new center will support CGI clients’ needs for software development, maintenance, and testing, as well as network engineering, design and data management support.
Partnerships with Texas colleges and universities, including Texas A&M University Central Texas, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Temple College will be key to recruiting skilled local talent.
CGI’s client list on its website includes Blue Cross Blue Shield, DIRECTV, The Environmental Protection Agency, Michelin, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, Pfizer and many more.
The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
No timetable has been announced as to when hiring will begin.
