Top education IT Outsourcing vendors released

May 31st, 2010

According to a press release, Research and Markets has released the “2009 Top Education ITO Vendors, Black Book Survey 2009 Results” report.
In the last year, the Black Book IT outsourcing education sector user survey has looked at more than 38 agreements by 455 education agencies as well as companies. In total, eighteen key performance indicators (KPIs) were utilized and scores were given to each vendor and ranked on a scale of 0-10.

Some of the major findings in the report include the following: The most significant attributes affecting education ITO customer satisfaction with outsourcing providers are KPIs vertical expertise, trust, customization, client relationships and reliability. It was also found that vendor dissatisfaction is not very common in the education ITO sector particularly with top notch suppliers. Strong satisfaction has been expressed by 25.4% of global clients. Incidentally, U.S. and U.K. clients are the most satisfied among all clients. Approximately 65.8% said they approved of their vendors.

In contrast, dissatisfaction with outsourcing vendors were present among 13% of those who were polled in 2009. Meanwhile, only 7% of companies in the U.S. and Europe were dissatisfied.

Companies mentioned in the survey include SunGard, Verizon Business, Infosys, IBM Global, Hewlett-Packard, Unisys, Capgemini, Accenture, Mahindra Satyam, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro Infocrossing.

Incidentally, outsourcing to India has dominated the offshoring scene for the last ten to twenty years with outsourcing giants like Infosy, Wipro and TCS. And education is not the only sector to use offshoring as a means for cost savings. The best seo companies, mobile application companies, and game development firms are other firms involved in the outsourcing landscape.

The Top Education ITO Vendor report comes on the heels of a bill that was passed by the House to prevent outsourcing. Though much of the outsourcing is offshored to faraway destinations, unemployment in the U.S. has led to calls for restricting outsourcing. Should the bill be passed in the Senate, the bill will close loopholes for taxation for multinational firms outsourcing to other countries. This is done largely to keep American jobs at home and to prevent outsourcing.

It will be interesting to see how the Top Education ITO vendors will manage to get around this bill and create a market in the U.S.

Queensland Department of Education and Training Renews Contract with Unisys for IT Support across 90 Campuses

January 20th, 2010

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that its Australian subsidiary has won a new three-year IT outsourcing services contract with the Queensland Department of Education and Training. Under the agreement, Unisys will continue providing IT outsourcing services to all Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes across the state.

The win builds on a 12-year outsourcing relationship between Unisys and TAFE Queensland.

The contract commenced 1 November 2009 and provides for two optional one-year renewals following the initial three-year term. The contract value is estimated at approximately AUD$41 million (USD$38 million) during the initial three-year term.

Under the contract, Unisys will provide IT services for students, teachers and administrators at 90 campuses across 13 TAFE Queensland institutes and the Australian Agricultural College.

Unisys will support approximately 330 servers and 19,000 desktops, manage the local and wide area networks, and provide help desk services to respond to approximately 75,000 support calls per year.

Unisys plans to introduce new and improved processes and toolsets for service management, service desk, change management, problem management and asset management. The processes and toolsets will be aligned to the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) set of practices and policies for IT service management, which is designed to improve service delivery efficiency and quality.

Tony Henshaw, vice president, Asia Pacific, Unisys Global Outsourcing and Infrastructure Services, said that the experience gained during the 12-year-long relationship helped Unisys work closely with the Department of Education and Training to design a targeted solution to meet the department’s future needs. “Unisys is keen to build on our work for the Department of Education and Training. Under the renewal, we are committed to implementing a modernised solution that adopts new tools to enable greater levels of automation, improved service levels and efficiency.

“Through this contract, Unisys employs more than 85 technology professionals based in Queensland, so this long-term engagement also demonstrates our commitment to the state.”

Technology Solutions Provider Stone Group to Present Education Sector IT Research at BETT 2010

January 5th, 2010

The research has sampled the opinions of IT decision-makers in UK schools, academies and colleges, and examines the education sector’s concerns surrounding issues such as IT budgeting and strategy, purchase decision influencers and the barriers to delivery of satisfactory levels of IT uptake within education. The research will also gauge the industry’s current position in the debates on IT outsourcing, managed services, IT security and the importance of IT recycling.

James Bird, CEO of Stone Group, comments, “At present there is a great deal being discussed about how the education sector will react to the current challenging economic environment and how it will impact budgets and service delivery in 2010. We have employed Redshift Research to conduct this study in order to better understand the likely effect of the economic conditions and the attitudes of the IT decision-makers in this sector.”

“We believe that this research is likely to highlight that the education sector is increasingly exploring IT outsourcing opportunities to bolster their service provisions to students, and to find reliable, policy-driven and cost-effective solutions. Come and join us on 13th Jan at BETT 2010 and we will share the results of the survey.”

Bird concludes, “As a technology solutions provider, we are developing our software and services offerings specifically for the education marketplace. Professional services, managed services and outsourced IT services appear to be gathering a great deal of interest from schools and LAs. All such services allow them to focus on their core skills of teaching and managing schools and classrooms. We think it is likely that the research will show the IT and business process outsourcing markets has grown and will continue to grow in the coming year. At Stone Group we are committed to being at the forefront of this growth curve.”

Stone Group will also be launching a series of new hardware and software products at BETT 2010 – full details will be available on stand H39 on 13 January 2010.
