Age of austerity set to boost contract work for Mouchel as local authorities seek to outsource

September 2nd, 2010

OUTSOURCING firm Mouchel said yesterday the outlook for its businesses was improving as the UK government starts to farm out work to cut costs.
“The medium and longer term outlook is becoming increasingly positive as the new government’s policies are implemented,” the company said in a statement.
Many support services firms could suffer as the coalition government cuts spending to fight a ballooning national deficit but Mouchel is confident it will gain as local authorities seek to create efficiencies.
Mouchel, which maintains Britain’s highways, said it had won new work in Australia and Abu Dhabi and that it expects to save £25m of costs in the full-year.
The company also said it had appointed David Tilston as finance director, replacing
Kevin Young.

Outsourced’ an Important Milestone

August 12th, 2010

In “Outsourced,” the highly anticipated NBC comedy set in a Mumbai call center, actor Rizwan Manji plays Rajiv Gidwani, an ambitious office-wala who finds his job in jeopardy when a brash, young American manager named Todd (Ben Rappaport) arrives on the scene. First reported in India-West this spring (I-W, May 28), the show debuts Sept. 23.

In a phone interview with India-West Aug. 2, Manji described the show and his place in it, and asserted that the series represents a turning point for Indian and Indian American talent in Hollywood.

Q: Rizwan, I have seen the pilot and it was great. There were a lot of laughs in it. Can you describe your character?

A: Rajiv is your lovable nemesis. He’s ambitious for many reasons. It’s going to become very clear in episodes to come what’s going on — he’s been engaged to his fiancée for eight years, and he cannot get married to her because his father-in-law wants him to have not only a higher social status but also the income. I guess the best way to describe it is, he could be a threat if he was more skilled — he can either get Todd fired, which would be an option; or he could make him do really well, and make him go back to America, so that Rajiv could get promoted.

Q: Have you ever had to work in telemarketing, or in an office?

A: I did phone surveys (laughs) as one of my first jobs out of acting school; I was really horrible. I got fired. I had to make people do these really, really lengthy surveys and we only got a commission on it if the entire survey was completed. But it required 30 minutes. Sometimes I’d get all the way up to 25 minutes and they’d be like, “I’m sorry, this is too much for me,” and you’d lose the entire survey.
