Taylor Wimpey Renews Five Year IT Outsourcing Contract with Logica

January 19th, 2012

Logica, a leading business and technology service company, today announced that Taylor Wimpey, one of the largest homebuilders in the UK, has renewed its IT outsourcing contract with Logica for another five years, in a deal worth £15.2 million. Taylor Wimpey has been a Logica customer for nine years and this new deal will see the relationship extend to 2016.

Logica will provide outsourcing of IT infrastructure management, technical applications support, managed testing and project delivery services for the UK house building business, with work taking place from Logica locations in the UK, India, and the Philippines. In supporting the fast-changing dynamic nature of Taylor Wimpey’s business, Logica has been instrumental in delivering cost savings and improved services across Taylor Wimpey’s 24 regional offices and circa 300 building sites in the UK. In a challenging housing market, and in line with Taylor Wimpey’s own efficiency targets, Logica has helped Taylor Wimpey realise significant savings.

Taylor Wimpey’s partnership with Logica is built on the level of service it provides, its understanding of technology needs for dynamic organisations and a commitment to providing best value.

Andy Feldon, CIO for Taylor Wimpey said, “We chose to renew our contract for another 5 years following a thorough external benchmarking process, which not only confirmed value-for-money, but also positioned Logica as the right technical partner to work with Taylor Wimpey on its extensive programme of change.”

Paul Muscat, Managing Director for the Transport & Commercial sector Logica said, “Our long-term relationship with Taylor Wimpey is testament to our ability to deliver a consistent service to our customers. Taylor Wimpey values the partnership approach it has developed with us over the last nine years.”

Muscat continued, “We are particularly excited about the next five years and supporting our partner in its goal to be the residential developer of choice for customers, employees and communities.”

Logica heads up £157m SOCA outsourcing deal

January 13th, 2011

A consortium of vendors led by Logica has signed a £157 million deal to provide the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) with IT and case management systems.

The ten-year contract also includes the providers Detica, Cable & Wireless, and Qinetic.

SOCA said the agreement will support increased collaboration with partner agencies, better use of intelligence and case management, and efficiencies through infrastructure consolidation.

“This contract secures an efficient and sustainable IT platform which will enable us to modernise and enhance our technological capabilities in fighting crime and improve the effectiveness of UK law enforcement in dislocating criminal markets,” commented Trevor Pearce, director general of Soca, in a statement.

The contract is another example of the Cabinet Office’s difficulty in enforcing a pledged deal value limit of £100 million on all public sector IT agreements. Another, in December, was the Ministry of Defence’s signing of an 11-year, £800 million IT logistics information systems deal with Boeing.

The Cabinet Office’s web site currently states that delivery of its commitment to keep IT contracts under £100 million is “overdue”.

Logica warns of drawn-out recovery

February 24th, 2010

Logica, the UK-based IT services company, reported a 3 per cent fall in sales for 2009 and said 2010 revenues would be flat as the economy made a slow recovery.

Andy Green, chief executive, warned of a hiatus in the company’s UK public sector business following the general election, particularly if there was a hung parliament, with no political party securing a clear victory.

Public sector contracts have been one of the strongest areas of Logica’s business during the downturn, accounting for just under two-thirds of revenues in the UK. However, there are fears that if a Conservative government is elected, there could be drastic cuts to public spending. There will also be an election in the Netherlands this year.

”In the short term there could be a hiatus, but in the medium term all European countries will need to invest in automation to get spending down,” said Mr Green who added that economic recovery would be slow.

”For most of our clients life hasn’t returned to the sunny uplands of 2006 and 2007. There will be slow improvements,” Mr Green said.

Revenues for 2009 were £3.7bn, down 3 per cent from the previous year as companies held back on big IT spending projects.

The company’s traditional IT consulting revenues fell by 10 per cent but were partially offset by 9 per cent growth in outsourcing, where Logica takes over the handling of entire parts of a company’s IT systems or business processes. Outsourcing has been a popular way for companies to save costs during the downturn.

Sales to the financial services sector saw deep declines of 20 per cent during the year, and business in the Benelux region fell 19 per cent. All IT services companies have struggled in the region, which is heavily dependent on banking.

Pre-tax profits were £43m, compared with £44m in 2008. The company took £95m in exceptional restructuring costs in 2009, as it trimmed back staff. Mr Green said he did not expect further restructuring costs this year.

Basic earnings per share were 2.5p, down from 2.7p previously, but the company raised its dividend 10 per cent to 3.3p. Mr Green said the move underlined the company’s confidence in the stabilising market.

Logica revamps order processing across Europe

December 16th, 2009

IT and business services company Logica has selected a new system for order to cash (O2C) processing for order-to-cash processing across its European operations.

Logica said it expects to handle five million O2C transactions annually using the Brainware Distiller system.

“After analyzing the market, we recognized that there was a dearth of solutions to help customers efficiently integrate their O2C operations and ensure the accuracy of their order and billing data. Traditional, manual methods for processing orders, are plagued by significant data inaccuracies, leading to problems such as incorrect shipments and significant delays in the issuance of corresponding invoices,” said Glenn Inniss, head of finance & procurement services for Logica.

“Distiller eliminates manual data entry, reduces processing errors attributable to master data inaccuracies, accelerates order and bill processing, and makes the entire process more efficient both for the end customer and Logica.”

As orders are received, the Distiller technology reads and classifies the documents, extracts specific data fields and line item detail, and then validates it against ERP systems. Once this process is complete, orders are passed for processing via Brainware’s workflow system.

Logica is an IT and business services company with 40,000 employees. It provides business consulting, systems integration, and IT and business process outsourcing services.

Logica and Celona partner to reduce business risk for clients with a new generation Application Data Migration offering

December 9th, 2009

Celona today announced a new alliance with Logica, a leading IT and business services company. The alliance combines the Celona Evolve real-time application data migration software platform with Logica’s recognised industry expertise, deep understanding of client’s business and IT environments, and proven ability to deploy complex programmes for major organisations. The combined expertise will ensure effective execution of application data migration projects for clients across all industries and enable companies to significantly reduce business risk associated with their application data migration projects.

Data migration has been a long standing problem area for enterprises spanning Telecoms, Financial Services, Utilities, Manufacturing and Public Sector, with over 60% of migrations overrunning in time and cost*, many programs of which result in failure across business sectors. The rise of business process-centric applications such as CRM and ERP and new application architectures has increased the complexity and issues of data migration. Therefore the need for both competence in the IT and business environments of the client, and specialist software tools for application data migration that can be successfully utilised at a business control level to de-risk and remove enterprise migration costs, has never been so high.

Aging tools and methods which have their roots in data warehousing are not suited to organisation critical business application migration. This has created a clear requirement for new generation software and professional services data migration offerings that can provide the technical and business level enablement to meet today’s needs for agility in the changing enterprise landscape.

The partnership follows successful cooperation on several projects in the telecom and financial services sectors.

Charles Andrews, CEO of Celona, commented, “Data migration can no longer been seen as just an IT issue. Rising enterprise data volumes, greater complexity of business applications and an increasing trend in IT/Business transformation programmes, driven by Mergers & Acquisitions, divestment and the requirement for increased business agility, makes data migration a board level business issue. We are truly excited by the benefits that this partnership with Logica will bring to clients. ”

Craig Boundy, Chief Executive, Global Operations, Logica, said, “Understandably businesses want to be in control of their operations. Putting the Board back in the driving seat when it comes to the migration process, rather than having it determined by IT needs, allows this to happen. Logica’s alliance with Celona will bring significant benefits to clients, allowing them to dramatically reduce business risks and project timeframes.
