Outsourcing makes a lot of sense in today’s diminishing economy. Increasing costs of production are one reason why many companies choose cheaper destinations for manufacturing their product lines. Outsourcing China still remains the top option for companies worldwide for reasons anyone can imagine. China might not be in the ranks of the developed nations, but one thing it is richer than anybody else is in it’s abundance of engineers. China ‘produces’ 350,000 engineers every year and the pure entrepreneurial nature of the skilled labor in China makes them put in up to 12 work hours a day, six days a week!

China outsourcing has been a regular feature in every business forum. Even as the dollar falls, outsourcing to China becomes cheaper because the yuan is pegged to it. Whether you are in IT, electronics, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, raw materials or even fashion, China outsourcing helps you develop your brand while maintaining top notch standards. Consider the case of the top pharma outsourcing company WuXi PharmaTech (WX). Helping the World’s top companies with their R&D, WX is known for 100% client retention. The Ph.D’s in the company are trained in the west as are their MBAs. While maintaining the highest standards for employment and corporate practices, the company managed to grab the cream of projects from the best pharmaceutical companies.

China’s outsourcing companies are majorly supported by the government of the country. It is no surprise since the country’s economy is practically dependent on its manufacturing industry. Apart from investing majorly in the education sector, Chinese government is also known to fund advanced infrastructure that helps various outsourcing companies. For example, the country directed the majority of a huge stimulus package to develop a west-to-east pipeline project that helped the oil services companies all over the country to get offshore projects.

China outsourcing companies offer a lot of value for your money and at 6.81 yuan a dollar, the services come far cheaper than anywhere else in the world. You will still be left with a comfortable margin even after shipping and other miscellaneous duties. The best way to go about a China outsourcer is to contact an agency that specialize in rating the companies in terms of employee qualification, rate of production, prices, packaging, engineering quality, infrastructure, etc. Extensive research is required before making a deal with a company and because China outsourcing companies go to every length to retain a customer, it is best to have this relationship with a trustworthy and promising company.

Infosys, larger rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS.BO) and third-ranked Wipro (WIPR.BO) have all stepped up hiring and raised salaries as demand for outsourcing grows in an improving global economy.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 18.24 points, or 0.2%, to 10216.27, the measure’s fifth-straight session in the black. This marks the DJIA’s longest winning streak since a six-day run that ended April 26.

Microsoft (Nasdaq) was the measure’s best performer with a gain of 56 cents, or 2.3%, to $24.83. Janney Capital Markets raised its investment rating on the stock to “buy” from “neutral,” saying “it remains a significant cash-flow generator trading at compelling levels.”

However, the DJIA’s material and industrial components were pulled lower after data showed Chinese imports slowed to a yearly growth rate of 34.1% in June from 48.3% in May. United Technologies declined 83 cents, or 1.2%, to 66.68, while DuPont slipped 38 cents, or 1%, to 36.52, Caterpillar dropped 44 cents, or 0.7%, to 64.28, and Alcoa fell seven cents, or 0.6%, to 10.87.

Alcoa’s decline also came ahead of its second-quarter earnings report as investors fretted that the stock’s jump of more than 9% last week may have boosted it too much before the report. After the close, the aluminum giant reported second-quarter earnings a penny above analysts’ estimates. Revenue also topped analysts’ expectations, and the company raised its projection for aluminum consumption. Alcoa climbed 3.3% in after-hours trading.

The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.91, or 0.1%, to 2198.36. The Standard & Poor’s 500 index advanced 0.79, or 0.1%, to 1078.75. The technology sector led the gains, while the materials and industrials sectors led to the downside.

The technology sector’s strength followed a number of upgrades from analysts. Yahoo, SanDisk and Qualcomm all joined Microsoft in receiving upgrades to their investment ratings from analysts. Yahoo (Nasdaq) edged up five cents, or 0.3%, to 14.94, while SanDisk (Nasdaq) added 2.91, or 6.8%, to 45.81, and Qualcomm (Nasdaq) rose 1.19, or 3.5%, to 35.10.

“The bad news is offsetting the good news,” said Thomas Nyheim, portfolio manager at Christiana Bank & Trust. “The market will start moving again as earnings come out.”

Following sinking stock prices two weeks ago and a big rally last week, “now everybody’s just paused, saying, ‘OK, let’s see how earnings come in,’ ” Nyheim added. “Our inclination is that earnings will slightly beat, but the guidance is going to be for a much slower second half.”

Aon fell 2.72, or 7.1%, to 35.62, after the insurance broker agreed to buy human-resource consulting and outsourcing company Hewitt Associates in a cash-and-stock deal valued at about $4.9 billion. The deal will nearly triple the size of Aon’s consulting operations, making it a $4.3 billion business by revenue. Hewitt’s shares soared 11.39, or 32%, to 46.79.

Weyerhaeuser climbed 3.02, or 8.4%, to 38.86, after the forest-products company said it will distribute $5.6 billion in retained earnings and profits to its shareholders in the form of a special dividend, a required step on the way to becoming a real-estate investment trust.

American depositary shares of BP jumped 2.71, or 8%, to 36.76, as plans for a new sealing cap raised hopes for the company’s efforts to stop the leak in the Gulf of Mexico while deal speculation rose. The Wall Street Journal reported that BP was in talks to sell assets to Houston-based Apache, while the Sunday Times said Exxon Mobil and another U.S. oil firm have asked the U.S. government whether they could bid for BP. Apache fell 2.81, or 3.2%, to 85.07, while Exxon edged up 16 cents, or 0.3%, to 58.94.

Aetna fell 42 cents, or 1.5%, to 27.21. UBS cut its investment rating on the stock to “neutral” from “buy,” saying health-care overhaul costs may delay margin expansion for the insurer.

Canada’s Pengrowth Corp. declined 70 cents, or 7%, to 9.25, after the company said it agreed to acquire Monterey Exploration Ltd., a Canadian junior oil and gas company in which it holds an 18% stake, to gain access to gas reserves in northeast British Columbia.

Sprint Nextel climbed 22 cents, or 5.1%, to 4.50. The telecommunications company’s contract subscriber losses look to be better than expected, Macquarie said, as the firm trimmed its forecast for cancelled contracts to 325,000 from 350,000 for the second quarter. The firm also noted that Sprint improved its rate of turnover, and it believes consensus estimates look too conservative.

Shaw Group slipped 31 cents, or 0.9%, to 34.68. The engineering and construction firm’s fiscal third-quarter earnings soared, with adjusted earnings topping analysts’ estimates. However, its gross margin fell, and sales in the company’s biggest business, fossil and nuclear, declined 11%.

Paychex (Nasdaq) shed 53 cents, or 2%, to 25.75, after the payroll-processing company said Chief Executive Jonathan J. Judge is resigning effective at the end of the month to pursue other interests.

Tami Reller, corporate vice president in the Microsoft Windows division, announced the second beta in her keynote at the Worldwide Partners Conference at the Verizon Center. The first beta was limited to 1,000 people. This new round will expand to 10,000 more testers.

The InTune service will cost $11 per computer per month.

The software is cloud-based so technology managers can manage multiple computers via the Web. Microsoft is also hoping to sell the InTune service to partners that provide IT outsourcing services to their clients.

About 13,000 people are at the conference in Washington, D.C., which brings together partners who sell, build on and offer services based on Microsoft products.

The United States Agency for International Development, along with advisory partner Carana Corp., are assisting with the project.

Cisco and USAID’s Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion (EDIP) project for Palestine will, over the next six to 12 months, “collaborate to ensure that the participant companies will be ready to enter global outsourcing contracts at the end of the program,” USAID said in a mission briefing last week.

While Israeli companies dominate the tech sector in the Mideast, the Palestinian territory has been quietly building an IT outsourcing industry over the past couple of years with the help of U.S. IT firms.

In addition to Cisco, Microsoft, Google, and Hewlett-Packard are investing in the region.

Atlanta-based Alcatel-Lucent is among the U.S. companies that have turned to the area for software development.

The communications systems manufacturer tapped Palestinian IT service provider Exalt Technologies to build a call analyzer system and other call center software.

Ramallah-based ASAL, meanwhile, has built up an international list of customers that includes Volvo, Intel, NIIT, and Cisco itself.

Cisco initially disclosed plans to invest in the Palestinian IT sector in 2008 with a pledge to provide $10 million in seed funding for tech startups in West Bank and Gaza.

“Education and the Internet are the great equalizers and vital to a sustainable, productive economy that increases the standard of living for all,” Cisco CEO John Chambers said at the time.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas said Cisco’s investment would help his government’s stated goal of building a market economy “in close cooperation with the private sector.”

USAID’s EDIP project in November sponsored a Palestinian IT expo in Ramallah that drew more than 30,000 attendees from the area.

In July 2008, Wipro began providing U.S. Patent and Trademark filing and docketing services to Microsoft’s intellectual property and licensing group. Microsoft previously had used a mix of in house resources, outside law firms and offshore vendors to perform these IP services. Moving to Wipro, with its extensive BPO experience, international reach and global delivery capabilities, ensured not only efficiency but also consistency in the way Microsoft does business, Wipro said.

Over the past two years, Wipro has developed an impressive IP domain expertise and ability to work on a scale required for Microsoft’s vast IP portfolio, the company said. Wipro and Microsoft continue to jointly develop improved domain expertise, processes and case management and work allocation tools to further streamline IP processes.
“The dedicated Microsoft team at Wipro has become a fundamental component of our global Patent operations function,” said Martin Shively, general manager of patent operations at Microsoft. “The Wipro team works closely with our in-house team to manage one of the world’s largest and most valuable patent portfolios.”

“The success of this partnership is testament to the innovation and dedication demonstrated by Microsoft’s IP team and Wipro’s LPO solutions professionals,” said Saju A. Joseph, Wipro Technologies general manager. “Wipro will continue to integrate legal expertise with process and technology to reduce overall legal cost for its clients.”

The company earned competencies in Custom Development Solutions, Data Management Solutions, and Mobility Solutions. As a Gold Certified Partner, Coherent Solutions has demonstrated expertise with Microsoft technologies and proven ability to meet customers’ needs. Microsoft Gold Certified Partners receive a rich set of benefits, including access, training and support, giving them a competitive advantage in the market.

“We are extremely pleased to have attained Gold Certified Partner status in the Microsoft Partner Program. This allows us to clearly promote our expertise and relationship with Microsoft to our customers,” said Robert Duff, COO. “The benefits provided through our Gold Certified Partner status will allow us to continue to enhance the offerings that we provide for customers.”

As one of the requirements for attaining Gold Certified Partner status, Coherent had to declare a Microsoft Competency. Microsoft Competencies are designed to help differentiate a partner’s capabilities with specific Microsoft technologies to customers looking for a particular type of solution. Each competency has a unique set of requirements and benefits, formulated to accurately represent the specific skills and services that partners bring to the technology industry.

The Custom Development Solutions Competency is designed for partners that specialize in demand generation, technical and sales learning opportunities, and early adopter initiatives across Microsoft developer technologies, with an emphasis on Microsoft Visual Studio. These partners deliver focused value for specific communities of developer partners through Application Infrastructure Development, Smart Client Development and Web Development.

The Data Management Solutions Competency is designed for partners that have proven their competency in end-to-end data-management reporting and analysis solutions based on Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server, Windows Server, and Microsoft Office System client tools. These partners have also proven expertise in implementing solutions focused on delivering migration tools and services, database- administration tools and services, and performance tools using SQL Server technology.

Partners that attain the Mobility Solutions Competency have proven expertise in developing and deploying Windows Mobile-based solutions and applications using Microsoft products including Windows Mobile software for Pocket PC and Smartphone.

Our developer partners enable us to deliver high-quality solutions and applications to our customers,” said Joe Marini, Director, Development Tools Ecosystem at Microsoft Corp. “As the demand for applications built on the Microsoft platform continues to grow, there are more opportunities for providers of custom-developed applications than ever.

The Custom Development Solutions Competency provides partners with a way to showcase their expertise delivering custom-built solutions to customers, to enhance partners’ revenue opportunities and positioning them for growth.”
The Microsoft Partner Program was launched in October 2003 and represents Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to the success of partners worldwide. The program offers a single, integrated partnering framework that recognizes partner expertise, rewards the total impact that partners have in the technology marketplace and delivers more value to help partners’ businesses be successful.

According to this Network World article:

“Microsoft is betting on the cloud to provide the next wave of innovation and opportunities for technologists, businesses and consumers. CEO Steve Ballmer has said that the vendor is ‘all in’ for the cloud, which potentially represents a $3.3 trillion market. ”

In approaching the cloud, Microsoft emphasized the hybrid cloud at TechEd.

“As the technology industry moves toward the cloud, users can ease the transition by adopting a hybrid computing model.” This is a popular battle cry by most traditional software providers looking to move into in cloud, considering that they can continue to sell their on-premise stuff with the promise of linking to the public cloud, even if it can’t be done today. Or, at least done today well.

The core challenge of Microsoft won’t be technology; it will be market and perception.Microsoft has some clear strengths, such as their productivity applications which will clearly be popular in the cloud.

However, in the past they have not had as much success with the data center-oriented products, such as high-end servers. Most IaaS providers are focused there, and Microsoft is clearly gunning for that market as well.

At the end of the day, the big money is to be made on he outsourcing of core infrastructure on the cloud, and there is a huge gap between what Microsoft is offering and what most enterprises need.I suspect they will close that gap quickly, but will it be in time to catch up with a rather overheated market?
