ISO Introduces New Outsourced Claims Solution

April 7th, 2010

Insurance Services Office (ISO) Limited, the U.K.’s leading provider of next generation personal injury claims services and solutions, has announced a new hosted claims service. The COA Bureau Service provides ISO Claims Outcome Advisor (COA) technology and powerful Management Information (MI) reporting as a fully-hosted solution to insurers, loss adjusters and claims handling organisations. The new service enables companies to derive the full value of the COA solution by outsourcing the entry of medical reports into COA. Claims handlers can use the consistent advice of COA without having to interpret and enter medical details into the COA system. Because no insurer staff training is required, the COA Bureau Service can be set up in a matter of days.

By using the COA Bureau Service, companies can improve the consistency COA brings to their valuations. In addition, the extensive MI reporting and the newly developed COA Dashboard instantly deliver detailed, up-to-date claims management information through analysis, graphs and reports. As part of the service, handlers receive a variety of reports comparing data by case, lifecycle and region. These capabilities make the settlement process more transparent and visible to management.

The combination of the COA solution and the expertise and judgement of their claims handlers allow companies to report greater consistency in evaluations and subsequent settlements, as well as improved management information. One leading self-insured that has already taken up the service reports that outsourcing its medical report entry and quantum evaluation processes to experienced ISO staff allows its handlers to focus on core skills, thus providing a better claims service and negotiating fairer, more consistent settlements.

“Our work with key players within the insurance sector has enabled us to offer the advantages of a Bureau Service along with our ISO Claims Outcome Advisor solution and our MI reports to a broader number of businesses,” said Joe Pendle, Director of Client Services for ISO. “With the model, we can also enter into other markets and widen our reach internationally. We are very excited about the benefits our COA Bureau Service can provide to claims organisations.”

IT solution for SMMEs

March 16th, 2010

Quietly, in the engine of the economy, a bunch of computer nerds are hoping to change the country, one business at a time.

“Yes, I’m a geek,” SpaceAge’s Chris Welham told News24. “But we have a unique strategy for small businesses – our goal is to create solutions for businesses.”

SpaceAge, launched in 1994, develops what call “unique solutions” for small to medium enterprises (SMMEs) that effectively outsources the company’s information systems.

“We supply the IT platform with the backup and support of an established brand to help small businesses,” Welham said.

However, Dr Kosheek Suleman, who specialises in information systems at UCT, rubbished any form of outsourcing.

Costs

“This system is fundamentally flawed,” he told News24.

“It’s asking another party to part of your supply chain and deliver services. It destabilises companies,” he added.

Suleman believes that IT should remain an internal business function, despite SpaceAge’s claim to relieve managers of “non-core” functions.

“I don’t accept that thinking. Technology affects our daily lives and if a director (of an SMME) is unaware of the technological changes, he’s abdicating his responsibility,” said Suleman.

Welham said that they meet with clients often to determine their needs on an ongoing basis.

“We meet once a month and package processes to make sure we deliver. We do everything at a fixed price, and our solutions give companies a competitive advantage,” he said.

“We sound expensive, but when you talk about running an environment 24/7, and we operate a service desk during business hours to minimise downtime, it’s a huge cost saving,” he added.

Suleman conceded that the system may be more efficient.

“Yes, there are efficiencies there, but at what cost and sacrifice?” he said. “You shouldn’t be held to ransom by things you don’t understand.”

Welham said that the company does it best to partner with clients and assist them in their businesses.

“We meet with the clients once a month, sometimes more often, to ensure we our relationship is win-win. Downtime in any business costs money and our system gives the best support possible,” he said.
